Jello Dashboard 3.1 (always in beta)

Hello!

I know it hasn’t been much time since the last update, but there were some things that should be fixed. Version 3.1 (I’m not saying beta anymore ’cause its always in beta) fixes some things and adds some more speed to startups.

I got many requests from you guys and I thank you for that. I need time to sort them out and see if they can be implemented. New things are the support of search folders (only for Outlook 2007) and the toggle mail preview button for versions 2003 and above. Also added Dutch language file (thanks to Jacob).
Changes in detail:

  • Added Search folders management into Outlook folders (available for Outlook 2007)
  • Added auto-backup of settings on jello updates and Reset button on the first upgrade screen
  • Added Skip invalid color values for shadow color
  • Fixed duplicate entries when replacing a context in a task through the Assign combo
  • Added When hiding sidebar the light topbar is shown with the show sidebar action
  • Added Show/hide mail preview on outlook folder views
  • Fixed hyperlinks equal sign bug
  • Fixed Css repositioning on window resize
  • Fixed Manage settings text box some keys were disabled
  • Fixed Faster startup using alternative settings routine
  • Fixed Faster saving of settings using alternative routine
  • Added more language specific caption settings
  • Fixed SELECTED category addition in done non-task items
  • Added Dutch language file (thanks to kebas)

Awaiting for more bugs and suggestions!

  • I am having a big problem with using jello now. I don’t know what change caused this, but I keep getting an Outlook pop-up every time I select a jello link that says, “A program is trying to access e-mail addresses you have stored in Outlook. Do you want to allow this?”.

I tried rolling back to 3.0final and it is still happenning, while it hasn’t for the last few weeks that I have been using Jello.

    Help…

  • Hi. Since some time ago I experience problems with my antispyware scanners by either taking hours or just blocking themselves when analysing some htm files. jellodash.htm completely freezes them (superantispyware, spywareterminator, windows live one care). Did anybody else experienced the same problem?

  • Re. item 1, Nicolas solved this perfectly, as follows: “Uncheck Show Item Notes indicator setting from your application settings page.”

I am still having issues with trying to assign an email to a project. It has worked in the past, although now I consistently get the pop-up “No Items were selected to perform selected action!” Any ideas?

  • @Sean Herschmiller
I’m working on this. It seems hard to be reproduced!

    @Sand
It’s just javascript. I don’t know what may causing those scanners to freeze. Its best to add it to your trusted applications I think.

  • I’m not sure why, but this release caused my Dell laptop running a dual display to blue screen several times. I’m running XP with SP2, and used it on Outlook 2007. I went from version 3 beta 2 straight to 3.1. I’m going to go to 3.0 final and see if it’s more stable for me.

That said, Thanks so much for building this. It’s made me adopt the GTD method, and has really made me more productive. I’m working to standardize on this in our department, as well as get the company to make a donation. It’s certainly worth it.

  • Well, I guess I’ll roll back to 3b2, since 3 final isn’t available anymore.

  • everytime i click the Next Action Icon on the Home page and then return back to home page, the counter disappear and will only comes back when the refresh button is clicked. No problem for the counter of item home page icons…

    thanks a lot

  • >>No problem for the counter of item home page icons…

should be: No problem for the counter of other home page icons.

  • @Art
In which part is your laptop hangs? In which screen? And what are you doing at that instance?
3 final can be sent to you if you want. Just send me an email!

    @Anjo
I will check on this too!

  • Just a note to say thanks — the latest version has fixed the problem I had with the automatic date update. Now the displayed date changes every day!
Thanks for creating such a great product!

  • a request:
    – counter for the outlook folders on the sidebar.

thanks a lot for this great appz…

  • When I install 3.1, I get:

    “A Runtime Error has occurred.
    Do you wish to Debug?

    Line: 2
    Error: Expected ‘)’ ”

I would like to try this program, but I don’t know how to get past this error.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Dennis, I think what might be happening is that you’re using the dashboard on a computer that’s not connected to your Exchange server. If you work in offline mode or make sure you’re connected, you might have better luck.

  • Rich – thank you for your reply.

I think I’m connected. When I say ‘No’ to the error message and proceed into the program, I can move about.

I can click the ‘Check Messages’ buttom at the top of the Home page and bring up the e-mail screen. From there, I can read, delete and send mail.

From time to time I get a different run-time error, on line 577, I think. But that’s happening less frequently now.

  • @ bc
I’m very glad I finally made it!

    @ Anjo
Your suggestion was noted. It’s good!

    @ Rich
Thanks for replying to Dennis. I still have no idea of Exchange server environments :(

  • I have a more general question (I had the same issue with the GTD Outlook plugin):
I manage projects for a small SEO firm. We have about 25 projects ongoing. Am I better off making contexts for each client, so that I can see what issues I need address with each client (such as when we have a pre-arranged conference call) or should I group everything into calls? If I do the latter, I have to sort through all my calls to see which client I need to address each issue with? If I do the former, am I corrupting the GTD system?
    Thanks,
    Josh

  • I am trying out jello and am having the same problem Josh had (see first post on this thread) with using jello. I keep getting an Outlook pop-up every time I select anything inside jello (any folder or action) that says, “A program is trying to access e-mail addresses you have stored in Outlook. Do you want to allow this?” I have to select “yes” for 1,5, or 10 minutes. No option to say “do not show me this warning again.”

I recall having this problem with a trial version of some other GTD program I was testing. They had a plug-in of some sort you had to download so you wouldn’t keep getting this message. I think they called it a “certificate”.

  • Just to clarify, I am not having a technical problem with Jello– it’s working perfectly so far (a few hours since install). My question is about organization– should I organize clients as contexts or as projects?

  • OK, so if I choose not to create contexts for each client, what will be the easiest way to see all of the next actions and things I am waiting on for each client (i.e., so when the call and say, “Is there anything else we need to talk about?”).
    Thanks,
    Josh

  • I have another question too… hope I haven’t used up my quota. ;-) How do I add items I am waiting on from others (@waiting for)?
    Thanks,
    Josh
