Blog updates and news.
The new homepage is completely different.
The sidebar is going through some changes, some new common contexts are there for easy access, there is a new header menu and the widgets are making their first appearance.
[click image for full view]

The number of widgets are limited only by the machine’s performance and they are positioned according to the user’s customization screen.
But…there is no widget drag and drop support, and unfortunately still no <iframe> webpage or external widgets support.

The first beta of Jello 4 will be available in a few weeks time (for the bravest of them).
Until then I would love to hear your thoughts and suggestions.

me too, me too! did you check the video of Midnight Inbox? It’s a MAC app. Some kind of workflow like that could be great. I know I know, is not the same outlook and an app like this, but just check it. I’m too excited to see wath the 4 will bring to the GTD landsacape.
November 8, 2007 at 6:20 pm
@johnwin+Anjo+matias
Alpha version sent. Awaiting on your comments!
and @matias
Midnight inbox is really cool.

Compared to all of the rest, this is a great application for enhancing the Outlook experience. Great work!
How does one get on to the beta list? I like what I see on the home page. It looks like it has some potential for integrating some of my sales BCM info. Will your new configuration allow for BCM folders to be reflected in one or more of the panes?
November 9, 2007 at 6:17 pm
@MarkM
You’re already in the list. Try it for yourself!
November 9, 2007 at 6:49 pm
I would also like on the list. I’ve been using Jello since 1.0 and have finally have my life in order to the point where its become second nature to me.
November 12, 2007 at 10:47 am
Have already installed the Alpha Version and trying it out. Will give my first impression a little later and the result of my testing in a couple of days.
best regards,

Hi, I’m interested in trying out v4
November 13, 2007 at 2:16 am
My First Impression on Version 4 VS Version 3.5
On the looks department I would give the score of 3 to version 4 and 5 to version 3.5 with 5 being the maximum score. I love the way the overall layout of version 3.5 was laid out. It is easier on the eyes.
I am still in the process of adapting to the new functionalities which I think make this version a lot better than version 3.5 as far as functionalities are concern.
On a personal level. I always make it a point to change all the fonts to tahoma to match the font setting of my Outlook. It makes it easy on the eyes and the screen less noisy. But that’s just my personal preference and others may not see it that way.

@Rich
@Alastair McDermott
version 4 was packed and mailed to you both!
@Anjo
I hope I will be able to make a new setting for the fonts used. Its a pity to lose all this time in editing the css file. As for the new GUI, I think its easy to get used to it.

While trying out the command box at the homepage, i encountered the error below:
Line 194
Error:’body’ is undefined
No error when using the popup command box.

@Anjo
thanks for that. I will check it.

I would be like the opportunity to beta test.
On dashboard features
a way to see all tasks, notes, e-mail and calendar items for a selected category or project.

I’d love to try out the new version!! I am actually writing a blog post right now on my trials and tribulations with GTD and Outlook… so this new version may fit in well with that.
Look forward to it!
Thanks,
Josh

I got the emails in the inbox ordered from old to new. That counts as a bug? Also I find it very slow to read.
November 16, 2007 at 1:55 pm
@Eric
A beta copy was sent to you. I think it does those things.
@Michael Ehling
A beta has been sent to you but returned and I cannot email you. Send in an alt.address.
@Josh Fialkoff
I sent you a beta and I will be glad to comment on your post (its really cool)
@matias
Maybe its a bug (the sorting thing). I bet you’re using a localized outlook version (this problem is a classic). You see for now emails are sorted using the received outlook property. What is this property’s name on your localized outlook?
Anyone found a microsoft localized outlook properties table?
November 16, 2007 at 6:17 pm
Thanks for the alpha preview! I’m a little unsure how to install it… I can’t put it in my Personal Folders, right? (that has a home page of: file:///C:/Program%20Files/JelloDashboard/jelloDash.htm). I tried to make a new folder, but that didn’t work… can you please clear this up for me?
Also, thanks for your feedback on my blog post… I’ll let you know when it’s up…
Thanks again!

Okay, excuse my ignorance.
I just changed my Outlook Personal Folders and it is working great! Love the changes!! Very exciting.
I do have a question:
I am currently using categories and flags for contexts and actions (I choose custom flag to write a specific next action).
Is there a way to easily convert those to work with the Jello system?
Thanks!
I am definitely going to include this new version in my blog post–with high praise!!

Installed 4.0, working fine so far.
First impressions
Customizable Widgets on Home page are great, just what I need to force a daily review.
A drop down list of existing Contexts/Projects instead of having to type them in would be awesome. I misspelled a few on the first try.
Any way to have the Outlook folder widgets default to their current view settings in Outlook? For example, having the e-mail sorted by sender, or task list sorted by category , date or importance.
Just ran into first script errors when changing Home page widget settings (Line 1, Char 23 or 26, Unterminated string constant, code 0, url Outlook Today). Looks like if have a Context “Calls & Email” that might be causing the problem. Still a problem when I rename to “Calls and Email”, works ok when rename to “Calls”
I notice when I rename a Context, the widget on the home page is not changed, stays with the old name.
Finally, when changing widget from one context to another, the drop down menu doesn’t kick in. That is you have to change it from Context-Project to something else, then back to Context-Project.

Please add me to beta testers list
November 20, 2007 at 5:50 pm
@ Josh Fialkoff
Glad you liked the new beta!
Custom flags are still not supported. They will be soon I guess (I need that too) If I find the way to do it!
@ Eric
Drop down list of existing Contexts/Projects is a good idea… needs some more coding. Ill try it.
The default outlook folder settings are accessed only by the outlook view control. I don’t think they would look good on a widget. What do you think? Maybe I should try it?
Thanks for both bugs. I’m on them :}
The third one is a suggestion… Got it!
@Dimitri
OK, got it!
November 20, 2007 at 8:16 pm
I’d love to get the Beta too!
November 21, 2007 at 4:28 am
Just installed 4.0a. Looks and feels great. Changed one of the widgets to my Outlook Tasks folder. How can I get it to show only active tasks?
Also, how about adding any Projects you’ve defined to the widget list.
dr Uqbar I thank you. Cheers.
November 23, 2007 at 4:43 am
great work !
I’d like Jello to be able to filter on subfolder names. e.g if I have a “fred” where there is a “fred” folder in
“calender,to-do,journal” of these root Outlook folders. Basically a global filter statement in jello based on a subfolder name ?
If the jello script stores the (sub)folder name where the event is, could whats displayed be filtered to match this criteria easily ?
thanks for a great toolset dr Uqbar

Please add me to the beta as well.
I certainly hope my outlook remembers the JelloDash settings now.
